About Parquetry
Parquetry is a decorative technique in which pieces of wood veneer are arranged in geometric patterns to create intricate designs. It is often used for flooring, furniture, and decorative objects. The pieces can be made from different types of wood, providing natural color variations that enhance the design's complexity.
Parquetry is typically seen in two forms:
Parquet flooring: Popular in high-end residential and historical buildings, it consists of small pieces of wood arranged in repeating geometric patterns, such as herringbone, chevron, or basketweave.
Furniture and decorative parquetry: Common in tabletops, cabinetry, and wall panels, where wood veneers are arranged in more detailed, often symmetrical designs.
This woodworking technique was prevalent in European palaces during the Baroque period and continues to be appreciated for its artistry and craftsmanship. Parquetry focuses on geometric precision unlike marquetry, which uses organic forms like flowers or landscapes.
